Airplane with Bear Pilot

I have currently been working on the The Flying Cat and His Amazing Plane pattern by: MysteriousCats.

I have made some modifications because of yarn weight.

 

I am using worsted weight yarn instead of Dk yarn, because of color choices from my client. I had to go down a hook size, from a G to a F hook. Its coming out a little bigger because of the yarn, but not my much. The plane body is supposed too be 5.5 in and mine is about 7 in.

The other thing I noticed is that the wings are going to be too small. If you look at the picture of the front of the plane that comes with the pattern I count 20 rounds before they join. I made the top wings bigger by adding 6 rows of sc. I also had to adjust the bottom wings to make them longer by 2 rows of sc. I have started the assembly to make sure my pilot is going to be the right size.

I have everything but the top wing and wheels attached.(Pictured above) I needed a break after having some difficulty with the bottom wings and wing holders. The bottom wings need to be attached really well in order to support the weight of the top wing. Also the wing holders need to be stuffed firmly, mine didn’t have enough at first. After another round of stitching the bottom wing support I think it will be sturdy enough to not have the top wing be floppy like it was.

I have all the pieces done for the pilot, now on to putting him together.

Finished bear pilot, I made a few modifications to the pattern. The head and hat were a little big so I omited a row of increase and added a few rows of sc. The ears and tail I sc 6 in a magic circle and sc 2 rows. The goggles I also omited the increase row and just used the black yarn, I also had to add more ch to the strap to fit around his head.

 

I added two ovals for the tummy and nose. I also added the red scarf, I just chained long enough to go around his neck and sc 1 row.

 

They look great together!



Polymer Clay Earrings

I have been having more fun with polymer clay, this time I am making earrings. After finding some inspiration on Etsy, I decided to have a go at it. In my to do list are t-rex, cow, hippo, squirrel, and Totoro. Last night I made three pairs of Calcifer from the movie Spirited away.

The first ones I made are on the bottom, they didn't come out great, but I got better with practice.

I'm going to try and tackle a couple of the others listed above tonight and get the rest of the supplies tomorrow from Micheals. Like special polymer clay glue and earring posts. After looking online the best way I found to attach them are to bake the earrings, glue on the posts, then add more clay covering the back (so you end up having a clay to clay bond), and bake them again.

I also purchased the rest of my materiels that I'm going to need to make them into earrings. I bought earring posts and backings from Joanns, polybond glue and a gloss paint for polymer clay from Michaels.

Fish Beanie

The pattern I used for this beanie is called: Minnow Hat by Heidi Barrett

I have made this beanie about four times with another one to come. It is a great pattern that is really easy to follow, I especially like the fact that nothing has to be attached, everything is knit together.

 

 

The only thing I do differently is that I stitch the lip in place instead of leaving it as is.

Snowglobe Ornaments

I got the idea to do these ornaments from this blog :

And since I found everything I needed except for the little trees, I decided to crochet them instead

Pattern: Mini Christmas Trees by Annaboo's House

 

 They came out pretty close to what I wanted

 

I ruined one of the ornaments trying to glue the tree, so I had to use this instead for one of them.

 

I stitched on some beads which is hard to see in the picture. Then I hot glued some little pieces of dowel to the bottom of the tree to give it a little height. I tried to glue the trees to the bottom but that didn't work for me very well, because the trees are a little hard to squeeze inside. Instead I threaded some clear fishing line through the bead I had stitched on top  of the tree, then I just secured that to the top of the ornament with tape. Beware most filling will stick to the sides of the ornament. A big help in putting them together were really long tweezers.

I also wanted to put little snowmen inside (but they came out too fat) so I bought ornaments that had a bigger opening that I bought at Joans.

Cable Beanie

Pattern : Snowtracks Cap by Timothy Peters.

I just finished working on this cabled beanie for a client. I think it came out great, had to make one slight modification because it came out a little long. I took out a few of the even numbered rows toward the crown, I think it was 4 rows, and that made it half an inch smaller.

 

I think this is my third cabled project and im starting to really like doing cables. This one looks a little complicated but it was pretty simple and easy to follow. I would definately recommend it. It also comes out really stretchy, so if your worrying about fit, its a good pattern.

Puppet Mittens

 The pattern is called Later Gator Mitts by Laura Grutzeck.

Working on making these puppet mittens for a client. They are coming out pretty good so far, im having to adjust the pattern to make them more round in the mouth area and i added a few cast on stitches to make them slightly bigger.

 

All done with the puppet mittens. The client I made them for wanted to add the buttons for the eyes and teeth herself. She is also going to add some felt lining, which is why i had to make them a little bigger.

Im definately going to have to make me a pair, love them!

 

Polymer Clay Stitch Markers

Once I saw these adorable owl stitch markers I had to make them.

 

 

I think I like them without the glaze that is used in the tutorial. These were pretty simple to make once I got the hang of using the clay. Be sure to wipe your hands and the surface your working on between colors.

 

 

I still have to attatch little hooks or loops to be able to use them but they came out great!

 

 

I also couldnt resist making little soot sprites, more to come!

 

 

The little stars were a little hard at first, but were way easier once I used my exacto knife.
